A common question we get here at OneWebHosting.com is how to add video to a website. It’s actually much easier than most people realize. Before I get to the how, let’s briefly talk about the why.
Why add video to your website?
Adding video to your website has quite a few benefits. You may have a product or service that is much better explained in a brief video. We have lots of customers that sell a product online and use online video to demonstrate it. Video has been shown to increase a website’s sales conversion by as much as 30%! Even if you don’t sell a product, think about how video can be used to explain the benefits of your service. This could be a simple introduction to your website, a product demonstration or a service comparison. It’s really up to your imagination.
So, how do I do this?
Actually adding the video is probably the easiest part of this equation. We suggest you use a free service called: Youtube. Youtube makes it super easy to host and manage your videos online. Just create a free account and upload your videos. The site automatically converts your videos into a format viewable in any browser (Flash). Once your videos are on Youtube, you can simply copy and paste the embed code they provide into your website.
Another great side bonus…
Another great benefit of using Youtube is getting access to the site’s massive audience. People use Youtube just like a search engine. Whenever I’m evaluating a new gadget purchase like Amazon Kindle or Garmin GPS, I will often do a quick search in Youtube to see what other people are thinking (via video) about a product. You can benefit from this same concept.
Using Youtube with Site Builder Pro
We’ve made it really easy to add Youtube videos to our site builder, Site Builder Pro. In fact, we have a how-to movie below showing you how to do this:

One of the most important things you can do on your website is to properly name your website title tags. What exactly are title tags? Title tags are the HTML element that defines the title of a web page.
When you go to any website, at the very top, you’ll see a description of the web page. This is called title tag (in html speak it looks like this: <title>My Title</title>).
The title tag is one of the most important factors in ranking well for your main keywords in search engines. In our website builder, Site Builder Pro you can easily modify your title tags on a per page basis. I like to follow a specific format for title tags.
Let’s try an example title tag
For example, say I have a BMW engine repair business (I know, quite random…) any way, the suggested format for the title tag would be:
“BMW Engine Repair | BMW Experts, Inc. | Sacramento, CA”
That vertical line you see is a pipe (|), it’s just a personal preference of mine and nicely separates the main keyword and the company name. Also, since this example business is probably geographically bound, I have included the name of my city. I suggest this format for your title tags:
Main Keyword | Name of Business | Name of town (and geography, if applicable).
Make sure your keywords are specific. Don’t use “fluff” words - be specific and concise. If you are using our site builder and want to implement these suggestions, just login to Site Builder Pro and click on “Optimize for search engines.”
Simple change, big benefits
The result of this simple change is that your website will have a better chance of ranking higher for your main keywords in the search engines and ultimately help you grow your business.
A very important key to being successful in life and business is being able to properly communicate your point of view. I have always had a voracious appetite for anything that can help our business communicate it’s message better. When your message is clear, people connect with the benefits of your service and become customers.
A book that I like to refer to often, and use to this day, is called “Words that Sell” by Richard Bayan. This is a great book because it gives you examples of words that, well… SELL!
Words that Sell includes a complete index of comparison words you can use for your business and website copy, tips on word usage and how specific words invoke the reader to take action and buy your product or service. I suggest you check it out…
More and more people are using Google Maps to find local businesses.
For example if you are looking for a dry cleaner in Sacramento, CA, it is becoming standard to go to maps.google.com and type in “dry cleaner, Sacramento, ca.” This will bring up results based on Google Local’s index. I often use my iPhone and the Google Maps feature to bring up local listings quickly.
By being listed in Google Local, you can be one of the businesses that come up, whether it’s online or via an iPhone. Google Local really is the new Yellow Pages. When was the last time you cracked that heavy book?
