When it comes to using images online, most people don’t realize there is a difference between “print quality” images and “web quality” images, the type you would use on your website.
Print quality images, the type automatically generated via most digital cameras have higher resolution than computers display on the web. The difference is 300 dots per inch for paper photos compared to 72 dots per inch for computer/web use.
What does this really mean? Well, basically, images that you get from your digital camera are much larger than they need to be for web use. This means that uploading an image that is not optimized for the web will result in that image being unnecessarily large, making it take longer to view by a visitor to your website. We suggest optimizing your photos and have provided a couple of free tools like PhotoResize listed below.

Optimize your photos with PhotoResize
So, it’s important that you optimize your images for web use. The end result will be faster download speeds without much compromise on quality and happier visitors to your website.
To assist you in optimizing your images for use on your website, we have a couple of free programs, PhotoResize (PC) and iResizer (Mac). You can download a free copy for operating system here.
